Growing Zones
The Cedar Rapids™ False Cypress or Chamaecyparis pisifera is a lush evergreen that adds color, texture, and privacy to a landscape. The feathery foliage is lime green and stays in place year-round. The scale-like fronds grow on woody branches. This plant is very easy to maintain, with established plants requiring little, if any, care.
This plant has a natural pyramid shape with a narrow form, and can create a stunning living privacy screen when planted en masse. Shield a patio space or create a wind block while adding color to a landscape. Mature trees stand 30 feet tall for an impressive statement. Grow the Cedar Rapids™ False Cypress as a perennial in zones 4 through 8.
Cedar Rapids™ False Cypress Care
Plant the Cedar Rapids™ False Cypress in full to part sun. This evergreen needs at least 4 to 6 hours of sunlight per day. Average soil is fine, but the plant will do best in fertile soil that is moist and well drained. Newly planted shrubs need water consistently for the first year, while established plants are drought tolerant. While mature trees can handle dry conditions, supplemental water during an extended dry spell helps the plant thrive.
Fertilize Cedar Rapids™ False Cypress with a plant food formulated for evergreen shrubs to support new growth. Apply fertilizer once per month for the first growing season and water it in well. Remove dead or damaged growth at any time.
Cedar Rapids™ False Cypress Spacing
The Cedar Rapids™ False Cypress stands 30 feet tall and 12 to 15 feet wide. Space plants 10 to 13 feet apart to create a hedge.
