Looking for something tall to go in that empty spot at the back of the perennial border? A carefree bloomer that readily reseeds itself? Something for that sandy, nutrient deficient spot in the garden where nothing seems to grow? This North American native might just be what you have been searching for.
The Chandelier Lupine with its columnar spikes of lemon yellow and white flowers appear on blue-green palmated foliage from May to June is sure to catch your eye wherever it is planted. With its upright, straight and tall growth habit, low maintenance, and resistance to deer once established, this Lupine is a good choice for the perennial garden.
Chandelier Lupine Care
Lupines do well in full sun and should be planted in an area where the soil is moist and well-drained. They are not overly tolerant of nutrient rich soil and prefer to grow in sandy, nutrient poor soils.
Deadheading is not recommended as we want to encourage this sometimes tender perennial to reseed in our gardens wherever it may.
Chandelier Lupine Spacing
Attaining a height of 24 to 30 inches and a spread of 15 to 18 inches at maturity this tall perennial would do well planted in groups in the back of a garden border or used as an accent in a mixed conifer bed.
