The Cherry Cheesecake Rhododendron is a beguiling plant, and after you plant one, you may want to expand your collection to include more. This easy-care Rhododendron features unique multi-color flowers. The flowers bloom in late spring and have white ruffled petals with hot pink detailing along the margins and deep red flecks of color on the upper lobes. The striking flowers bloom on sturdy stems and feature thick, dark green foliage with a lustrous, leathery texture.
This broadleaf evergreen has an upright growth habit and a strong, woody structure. At about 5 feet tall and with dense foliage, this plant makes a wonderful border when used along a property line or a foundation wall. Line a walkway or feature this stunner as a specimen planting in a mixed bed. Grow this lovely plant as a perennial in USDA zones 5 through 8.
Cherry Cheesecake Rhododendron Care
The Cherry Cheesecake Rhododendron needs partial sun and will do best in a spot that has afternoon shade. Plant in rich, well-draining soil that is slightly acidic. New plants will require water more often, but established plants are not as thirsty. Rhododendrons have shallow root systems, so water during a dry spell to ensure this beauty looks its best.
New plants can be fertilized in the spring and again after the flowers fade. Established plants will benefit from an application of balanced fertilizer once each spring. Remove damaged or dead growth as necessary, but wait to shape the plant until the blooming cycle is complete.
Cherry Cheesecake Rhododendron Spacing
This upright plant will reach 4 to 5 feet tall and wide. These shrubs can be spaced 3 to 4 feet apart when creating a continuous mass plant.
