Growing Zones
The large blooms of the Chicago Apache Daylily are jaw-dropping and add both texture and intense color to a landscape bed. The crimson flowers have green throats and measure an impressive 5 inches across. Four large petals overlap and have ruffled edges that narrow to a gentle point. The lovely blooms will be on display from June through August. The strap-like foliage is a deep green and grows in a dense mass at the base of the tall stems.
Plant this beauty in beds, borders, or mass plantings. The big flowers and dense growth habit enable this plant to be the centerpiece of a small bed, or the grand scale can easily fill in a large space. Plant this daylily with neutral-hued flowering plants to ensure the deep crimson flowers stand out or go bold with other vibrant-colored perennials. The Chicago Apache Daylily is disease-resistant, drought-tolerant, and grows as a perennial in USDA zones 3 through 8.
Chicago Apache Daylily Care
This beauty needs at least 4 to 6 hours of sunlight, but expect more blooms when grown in high light levels. Soil should be rich, moist, and well-drained. Wait until the top few inches of soil have dried out before giving this plant water, and keep up with watering during dry periods to support continued growth and blooming.
Feed this daylily using balanced fertilizer throughout the growing season. Deadhead the plant to encourage more blooms. Trim the growth back in the fall.
Chicago Apache Daylily Spacing
The Chicago Apache Daylily is a perennial that will grow 24 to 30 inches tall and 18 to 24 inches wide. Space plants 16 to 22 inches apart for a continuous planting.
