Developed in 1962, the Chicago Peace Rose Hybrid Tea Rose has been widely grown and loved for decades. Producing huge, pink blooms with a copper tinge all season long, this hybrid tea rose really is a stunner. Flowering from early summer until the fall, the Chicago Peace Rose grows to 3-4 feet tall by 2-3 feet wide, making it a versatile choice for many gardens. It displays sweetly fragrant blooms that are perfect for bringing into the home as a cut flower.
Grown for its outstanding blooms that nicely contrast its dark-green and glossy foliage, the Chicago Peace Rose will brighten up any spot. As a hybrid tea, it has strong and upright stems, which are needed to support its large flowers up to five inches across. With its vigorous growth and hybrid tea form, this rose is ideally suited for growing in a border, container, or informal hedge.
Chicago Peace Rose Hybrid Tea Rose Care
To guard against disease and encourage flower formation all summer long, the Chicago Peace Rose is best grown in full sun. Preferring a rich and fertile free-draining soil, we recommend adding some well-rotted manure at the time of planting. Frequent watering upon planting and for the first season is required, with the goal being to keep the soil moist, but not saturated. As with all roses, a specific rose fertilizer should be applied throughout the growing season as per the manufacturer’s guidelines.
To keep this hybrid tea rose blooming all season long, regular deadheading is a must. Pruning should be carried out in late winter or early spring. To prune this rose, remove any dead, diseased, or crossing stems to form an open framework and shorten the remaining stems to around six inches high, cutting just above a bud. When pruning roses, sharp and sanitized pruning shears are essential to help prevent disease and make clean cuts.
Chicago Peace Rose Hybrid Tea Rose Spacing
Depending on the growing conditions, the Chicago Peace Rose can grow to an eventual 3-4 feet tall by 2-3 feet wide. If growing this rose en masse, plants can be spaced around 3 feet apart. Being fairly compact, this rose is suitable for growing in a large container with an opening of 18 inches as a recommended minimum.
