Desiring to add dimension and color to your yard, deck, patio, or street-side mailbox? Clematis Jackmanii is the perfect purple solution. Large, 5-inch, violet florets rest atop shamrock-green foliage that covers this easy-to-grow, fast-growing climber. This vine can be trained to grow vertically up a trellis, fence post, or pole. Blooming throughout the summer into early fall, this versatile perennial, also known as Clematis x jackmanii and Jackman's Clematis, is cold hardy in zones 4 - 8. Pollinators such as butterflies, hummingbirds and bees will hover around this showy flowering vine all season long.

With its ancestors found all over the world, this abundantly flowering plant can survive in a wide range of climates. With its climbing growth habit, it easily adds height, color, and texture to wherever it is planted. A low-maintenance perennial, Clematis Jackmanii is the ideal choice for a busy person who wants to quickly upgrade a landscape without incurring a lot of fuss. Adding another A+ to its report card, this deciduous cultivar is both deer and rabbit resistant. Its large, four-sepaled blooms will still be there long after the local critters have sauntered by.

Clematis Jackmanii Care

While Clematis Jackmanii likes to “climb” in full sun, it prefers its roots to rest in cool soil. Plant it in moist, loamy, roughly neutral, well-draining soil with a layer of mulch to shade the roots from the sun. If the soil is compacted or lacks sufficient nutrients, amend it by adding organic compost. Provide this perennial with a support such as a trellis, pole, or post to climb. Possessing average watering needs, make sure Clematis Jackmanii gets about one inch of water weekly, and feed this fast-growing plant a balanced (10-10-10 NPK) fertilizer monthly from April to September.

To overwinter, cover the soil with a few inches of mulch to insulate the roots. Since Clematis Jackmanii blooms on new wood, cut back old growth in early spring.

Clematis Jackmanii Spacing

Space Clematis Jackmanii 4 to 6 feet apart whether grown en masse or individually. This easy-to-grow climber does well growing up a trellis or post. In a container combination, this perennial makes a superb thriller. Examples of superb companion plants include sweet alyssum, butterfly bush, and roses.

Guarantee and Warranty

Plant Shipping

Below are some factors we consider when determining when to ship the plants depending on the timing of the order.

Winter to Early Spring

We ship only when it's warm enough to plant in your growing zone.
Sometimes plants aren't completely ready to sell and ship in early spring. We will wait until the plants are ready before shipping so you don't get a subpar product.
For Southern plants we will be able to ship much earlier than plants coming from our northern nursery.

Summer

If there is extreme heat we may delay shipping for a week or several weeks.
We review what areas the plants are traveling through as well as your location.

Fall into Winter

We’ll ship plants out all the way up to the end of the fall planting season!

Winter

Get your order in early to reserve your plants for Spring planting!

Once your plant is shipped you’ll receive an automated email with tracking information.
