Growing Zones
Cocktail™ Mai Tai Geum is a prolific and long-blooming perennial that is very easy to grow. Single to double blooms are 1 inch wide, slightly nod, and sit on top of wiry red stems. The vermillion flowers have ruffled petals that fade to a light peach with time. This plant blooms from late spring until early summer. Once the blooms are done, the flowers transition to fluffy seed heads. The stems have few leaves and feature ruffled mid-green basal foliage.
This clump-forming plant can be used in beds, borders, and containers. As a medium-sized plant, this beauty is a good fit for the middle or rear of a bed. Trim the flowers to use in arrangements. The blooms will attract butterflies and hummingbirds, but deer or rabbits do not favor the plant. Grow the Cocktail™ Mai Tai Geum as a perennial in USDA growing zones 5 through 8.
Cocktail Mai Tai Geum Care
Cocktail™ Mai Tai Geum can be grown in full sun or partial shade. This plant has average water needs, so give it a drink when the top few inches of soil dry out. Soil should be fertile, moist, and allow for good drainage.
Deadhead the plant to encourage more blooms or leave the spent flowers so the plant can self-seed and supply food for birds. Prune back the growth after the flowers fade.
Cocktail Mai Tai Geum Spacing
Cocktail™ Mai Tai Geum is an upright, clump-forming plant that grows 16 to 18 inches tall and 12 to 14 inches wide. Space plants 15 inches apart when used in a mass planting or include one plant in a 10- to 12-inch container.
