Color Cocktail Rose, Rosa Color Cocktail, or Rosa Mellowmayo, is a vigorous, easy-to-grow, shrub rose variety that provides a gorgeous mix of two or more rose colors. In the late summer, the flowers of the Color Cocktail Rose open in a deep yellow color, but transform into blossoms of pastel pink as the flowers mature. These stunning multi-tonal blooms are ensconced in glossy, vivid green foliage with serrated edges. The Color Cocktail Rose has low, arching stems and grows to a height of 2 to 3 feet with an equal spread. This fragrant, versatile rose is perfect for large landscaping projects, or for smaller displays.
The Color Cocktail Rose has an upright and compact growing habit. This low-maintenance, free-blooming variety attracts butterflies and hummingbirds and supports critical pollinators. It makes an excellent cut flower for bouquets and arrangements. It can easily be dried or preserved for both its color and fragrance. They make a colorful splash in any container or pot and can live for years with proper care, and they are disease resistant.
Color Cocktail Rose Care
The Color Cocktail Rose will thrive in full sun and moist, well-drained soil. It requires average water and good air circulation. Your Cocktail Rose should receive at least 6 hours of sunlight per day. Fertilize your Color Cocktail Rose in early spring, and again just before it flowers. It should be pruned after the blooming season has ended in the late fall to encourage denser form and better blooms in the season to come. After planting, spread mulch over the root system of the plant, but don’t allow mulch to touch the stems.
Color Cocktail Rose Spacing
The Color Cocktail Rose is often planted in mass and makes a beautiful classic focal point in any garden or landscape. They should be spaced 12 inches apart when planted in rows, and make a gorgeous low hedge when planted alongside a second staggered row. They work well in containers and are incredibly easy to grow, provided the container is deep and has adequate drainage.
