Color Splash® absolutely lives up to its name, with an immense number of bi-colored blooms covering the shrub from summer through frost. The petals are bi-colored, with red to apricot or coral-pink shades on the outside of each petal giving way to a creamy interior. The high petal count of this Floribunda rose, sometimes known by its cultivar name ‘KORbaymun’, attracts pollinators. Color Splash® is less fussy and has lower maintenance requirements than many other rose cultivars.
Good disease resistance helps to ensure the lush dark green leaves remain an attractive background for the flower show all summer long. Deer are not particularly drawn to Color Splash®. This selection is grown on its own root, so it is especially hardy and tough. Use this vigorous rose in low hedges, as a standalone specimen, in a rose border, or as a backdrop in a mixed perennial bed.
Color Splash® Rose Care
The Color Splash® rose prefers a location in full sun, although in hot areas, afternoon shade can provide welcome relief. The best soil for this rose is rich in organic matter and well drained. Work plenty of compost into the site prior to planting, and maintain a thick mulch layer over the root zone. For maximum vigor and blooms, apply a fertilizer labeled for roses in the spring according to manufacturer instructions. This rose has average water requirements, so once established, provide it with supplemental irrigation weekly during extended dry spells.
Snip off spent flowers to encourage reblooming. Leave canes intact through the winter and cut them back to about 8 inches above the soil line, just as the plant begins to break dormancy.
Color Splash® Rose Spacing
The Color Splash® rose has an upright habit, growing 5-6 feet tall and 2-4 feet wide. In a hedge, position multiple plants 2-3 feet apart. In foundation plantings or when using the rose as a specimen planting, give this rose 4 feet of space or more.
