The CopperTone Distylium, Distylium ‘Piidist-iii”, is a medium sized broadleaf evergreen with copper-red new foliage that turns blue-green during the growing season. This shrub is a member of the witch hazel family, and has small red flowers that bloom in winter.
Use these shrubs as mass plantings or as a hedge. The bushes require very little care, and also provide year round interest. A combination that is very difficult to find. This will really make your landscape stand out in the neighborhood!
Coppertone Distylium Care
Prefers average to slightly acidic well-drained soil. Water regularly to establish. Once established, this bush requires minimal maintenance. This bush does well in areas with high heat and humidity and can tolerate dry conditions. Perfect for southern states because of the of pest & insect resistance plus disease resistance.
To prune Coppertone Distylium shrub, trim in late winter after the shrub is done flowering. However, pruning is not required. You can trim these into formal shapes like a boxwood as well.
Once established, these shrubs do not require much care at all. Perfect for people with no time or that do not enjoy working outdoors in hot and humid conditions.
Coppertone Distylium Spacing
Plant 24 inches apart, center on center when establishing a hedge. Plant 6 to 8 feet apart when used as a foundation planting. These also do great in garden planters, perfect for year round interest in entryways or patios.
