The mesmerizing flowers of the Coral Sunset Peony are stunning, even by peony standards. This Paeonia latifolia boasts semi-double flowers in a vibrant shade of coral with hints of rosy pink. The cupped flowers last 7 to 10 days, and the ruffled petals gradually fade to ivory. Glossy, deep-cut foliage is dark green and provides color throughout the summer and fall.
This peony has a mounded, bushy growth habit and adds color to beds, borders, and mass plantings. Create a lovely foundation planting, and trim the blooms to feature in arrangements. Butterflies are attracted to the flowers, making this plant a draw for pollinators. The Coral Sunset Peony grows as a perennial in zones 3 through 8.
Coral Sunset Peony Care
This beauty needs rich, moist, well-drained soil to be at its best. Plant it in full sun for best results, although this peony can live in areas with partial shade. Water this plant when the top few inches of soil dry out. Apply a 10-20-20 fertilizer in the spring to support new growth.
The showy flowers can be heavy, so stake the plant before the buds open to give the stems support. Remove faded flowers to maintain a neat appearance. The Coral Sunset Peony is an herbaceous perennial and all growth should be cut back to ground level in the fall.
Coral Sunset Peony Spacing
This plant has an upright, mounded growth habit. Plants reach 30 to 36 inches tall and 24 to 30 inches wide. Space plants 30 to 32 inches apart so air can circulate and so the impressive blooms are not crowded.
