Dandy Man Pink Rhododendron was developed by former American Rhododendron Society President Dr. Leonard Miller. This rhododendron was developed and bred to thrive in southern states, but can grow from zones 5a to 9b. What makes this a great southern plant, is the combination of heat tolerance, root rot resistance, and hardiness.

This Proven Winners ColorChoice shrub is great as border plants, as a focal point in the landscaping, as well as in garden planters. This bush blooms bright pink flowers in early spring through early summer. The leaves are dark green, which is a great contrast to the flowers. This is an evergreen shrub, so it has great looking foliage year round.

Dandy Man Pink Rhododendron Care

The Dandy Man Pink Rhododendron should be planted in soil that is well drained. Rhododendrons are particularly susceptible to root rot, so that is very important. It prefers acidic soils, with a pH between 5.5-7.5. We also recommend adding a layer of mulch to help retain moisture and protect the roots during harsh weather conditions.

You should fertilize in the spring, using a specialized rhododendron fertilizer. Apply according to the directions of the fertilizer you purchase.

Prune Dandy Man Pink Rhododendron in early summer after the shrub has finished flowering. Be sure not to be too aggressive when pruning. You may also trim off dead and sick branches throughout the year as necessary.

Dandy Man Pink Rhododendron Spacing

These shrubs should be planted at least 5 feet apart, center on center. It is also possible create a beautiful evergreen hedge by planting 4.5 feet apart, center on center. If planting in a gardening planter, choose one large enough to fit the roots when mature.
