Growing Zones
Plant the Dapper® Lavender Butterfly Bush in your yard to create a busy hub for pollinators and a stunning visual display. Dark green, elliptical foliage comes to a point and bends slightly at the midrib. The leaves of the Buddleia davidii grow compactly along the stems, creating a very dense shrub. Darling purple flowers with orange eyes bloom in cone-shaped clusters during the summer.
The rounded form and dense growth give this plant a full look. Butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees will visit the flowers, but the foliage is deer-resistant. Include this plant in beds, mass plantings, or borders. Feature the shrub near a busy area so the scent of the fragrant blooms can be enjoyed or trim the flowers to display in a vase. Grow this butterfly bush as a perennial in USDA zones 6 through 9.
Dapper® Lavender Butterfly Bush Care
This fast-growing butterfly bush needs full to partial sun and prefers to dry out between watering. Give this beauty a drink when the top several inches of soil have dried out. Soil should be rich and well-drained. Feed this shrub using balanced fertilizer annually each spring.
Trim away spent blooms throughout the blooming cycle. Cut back damaged growth at any time and prune in the spring after new growth appears.
Dapper® Lavender Butterfly Bush Spacing
The compact Dapper® Lavender Butterfly Bush will grow 3 to 4 feet tall and wide. Plants can grow as close as 2.5 to 3.5 feet apart for a thick and full landscape.
