The Dapper® White Butterfly Bush, or the Buddleia Davidii Dapper ‘White’, grows vigorous masses of white flower cones, reminiscent of vanilla soft serve ice cream, against its deep green foliage. Your shrub’s flowers will grow during the summertime and will rebloom in autumn. The plant holds a round, compact shape, and will reach a height ranging between 3 to 4 feet and a spread of 3 to 4 feet. This lovely, eye-catching shrub will grab the attention of both butterflies and hummingbirds.
Native to China, this shrub gives off a sweet, irresistible scent and is deciduous. It is both drought tolerant and deer resistant but may be susceptible to downy mildew, which causes the development of mildew patches underneath the leaves. Although mildew will not appear on the top of the leaves, the leaves may turn yellow or brown as a result of the disease. This shrub grows at a fast rate and won’t require much maintenance on your behalf. You can use these for borders, beds, mass planting, and containers.
Dapper® White Butterfly Bush Plant Care
Your Dapper® White Butterfly Bush will grow best when getting at least 5 hours of full or partial sun exposure every day. It needs moist, well-drained soil with a pH of 5.5 to 7 for optimal growth. However, your shrub will be able to handle alkaline soil with a pH reaching 8.5. You must water your shrub regularly until it is established.
Because spent flowers will be covered by your shrub’s newer blooms, deheading will not really be necessary. You can, however, cut your shrub’s flowers after they are fully grown.
Dapper® White Butterfly Bush Plant Spacing
When planting your Dapper® White Butterfly Bush, it is essential that you leave at least 3 to 4 feet of space between each plant.
