This is not your typical daylily! Daring Deception is far superior in many ways to the humdrum yellow and orange types that we are all used to seeing. Not that there is anything wrong with those but, let’s face it, they are definitely lacking in style. But not these daylilies with their striking 5.5 inch blossoms in contrasting colors of pink outer petals and deep purple centers on plants that can reach a height of 20 to 24 inches with a spread of 24 to 36 inches. This reblooming daylily flowers from early summer into fall and is sure to be the star of the perennial garden.
Daylilies are low maintenance and easy to care for perennials with few, if any, insect pests or diseases. This particular daylily is evergreen to semi-evergreen in mild winter climates, does well in an urban environment and is drought tolerant once established. It would be a wonderful choice as a mass planting, an accent planting in the perennial or patio garden, walkway or pathway planting and growing in a pot or container. Winter hardy in zones 3 to 8. Daylilies grown in pots or containers would need to be planted in garden soil for the winter where temperatures fall below freezing for an extended period of time and repotted in spring. This perennial is not a favorite of deer or small herbivores. Native to Eurasia.
Daring Deception Daylily Care
Daylilies perform best in full sun to partial shade and although they tolerate a wide range of soils they prefer a moist, but well-drained fertile soil. They are accepting of a wide pH range from moderately acidic to alkaline.
Deadheading is not necessary but may be done to maintain a neat appearance to the plant. Daylily clumps may be divided every 3 to 5 years in late summer. Cut back passed foliage to the ground in late fall.
Daring Deception Daylily Spacing
Daylilies should be spaced approximately 18 to 24 inches apart if grown as a mass planting, in the perennial border, patio, walkway or pathway planting or if grown in pots or containers.
