Growing Zones
The Darley Dale Heather is a low maintenance perennial shrub that is evergreen in nature. Evergreen, well, until winter through spring when bright pink blooms populate the stems. This perennial changes with the seasons, and can provide color during long winter months. It is pretty hardy for a heather, and can survive with blooms when many flowers cannot.
The Darley Dale Heather is hardy in zones six through eight. This perennial typically grows densely outward. It is low maintenance in nature, and spreads easily. Not only is this perennial deer resistant, but it’s also a friend to the bees. Beautiful at glance, but also very useful as a ground cover, this shrub is valuable in more ways than one. It can be a lovely addition to a border, or along a sloping area to prevent erosion.
Darley Dale Heather Plant Care
The Darley Dale Heath prefers full sun. While it should be placed in full sun, it does prefer moist, well drained soil. This can be difficult to maintain if planted within a container. Extra attention should be paid to maintain the health of this blooming perennial if prolonged dry periods are observed, especially in a container. It can be fertilized yearly to maintain health and vitality.
This perennial shrub can be pruned after blooming in the late spring to increase density. It can also be shaped as preferred.
Darley Dale Heather Plant Spacing
This is a relatively short perennial shrub, reaching 12 to 15 inches in height. It does grow densely outward, so should be spaced 24 to 30 inches apart.
