Spikes of chocolate-colored flower buds open to reveal golden to cinnamon colored flowers on Decadence Cherries Jubilee False Indigo. This bushy perennial (Baptisia 'Cherries Jubilee') makes a perky backdrop to any garden bed or meadow. The False Indigo hybrid will blend with native plants and use a low to average amount of water. It's a perfect plant to welcome spring or early summer in zones 4 through 9. And False Indigo is deer and rabbit resistant.
Decadence Cherries Jubilee False Indigo grows as a dense but compact shrub of nearly three feet tall and wide, filled with light blue-green leaves. And it blooms like crazy when it hits its peak. The plants can have more than 250 bloom stalks each. Even though Cherries Jubilee blooms early in the growing season, the flower pods that remain are great for dried flower arrangements. This is a versatile plant that works in the back of beds, cottage gardens, meadows or to complement a native plant landscape. It's also a perfect feature plant for a spring container.
Decadence Cherries Jubilee False Indigo Care
Plant your Decadence Cherries Jubilee False Indigo in part sun or full sun. It thrives in average soil that drains well and needs regular watering. Still, the plant can survive some periods of drought.
The plant requires little care; you don't have to deadhead the flowers. If you want to keep the nice mounded appearance of the shrub, trim off spent flower stalks in mid-summer if you like. Most False Indigo shrubs do well with application of a balanced fertilizer in early spring.
Decadence Cherries Jubilee False Indigo Spacing
For a mass of unique and thrilling color, plant several Decadence Cherries Jubilee False Indigo shrubs in a bed or landscape. Just allow for their mature size, spacing them nearly three feet apart. It will reward you by coming back year after year.
