- Use As A Thriller In Containers
The full, double flowers of the DELPHINA™ Rose White Bee Larkspur are a lovely dusty rose shade of pink with white inner petals. Tall, sturdy stems feature clusters of flowers and striking green foliage. Expect flowers to bloom in the spring and early summer. This upright thriller also goes by Delphinium elatum or candle Larkspur. It grows about 18 inches tall, making it a great fit for small gardens or an attractive option to feature near the front of a garden bed or in a container.
This plant has a much more compact growth habit than many other varieties of Larkspur. Use the DELPHINA™ Rose White Bee Larkspur in borders, mass plantings, or as cut flowers. Pollinators are drawn to the showy blooms, but deer or rabbits do not prefer the foliage. This hardy plant grows as a perennial in USDA zones 4 through 8.
DELPHINA™ Rose White Bee Larkspur Care
Plant in full sun, although Larkspur can handle some shade. Water Delphinium elatum when the top layer of the soil is barely moist. This plant does not like to dry out, but it does not like soggy conditions either. Use well-draining soil that is neutral to slightly alkaline. Fertilize every 2 to 4 weeks using water-soluble plant food.
Trim back the entire flower spike after the blooms die back. Try to time it before the plant goes to seed, which may encourage the Larkspur to rebloom. Cut back all growth in the fall after any remaining flowers have faded. Leave the basal foliage or the lowest grouping of leaves. This growth will protect the roots during the winter and can be removed when new growth emerges in the spring.
DELPHINA™ Rose White Bee Larkspur Spacing
The DELPHINA™ Rose White Bee Larkspur will reach 14 to 18 inches tall and grow to be just as wide. Space plants 14 to 18 inches apart to create a dense mass planting or give them more space to showcase the stunning flower spikes. Select a large pot if growing in a container.
