Growing Zones
With Denim 'n Lace Russian Sage (Perovskia atriplicifolia), you can add bluish-purple flowers to even the driest garden. The long-lasting color rises above lacy green foliage and lasts all season. The drought-tolerant shrub also produces a natural sage-like fragrance.
Denim 'n Lace Russian Sage reaches 2 to nearly 3 feet tall in an upright habit. Deer tend to avoid Russian sage, making this a versatile shrub for nearly any landscape in zones 4 through 9. Place your Russian sage along a sidewalk, to screen a small structure, or as a thriller in a large container. You also can plant several to form a bright summer border that attracts pollinators.
Denim 'n Lace Russian Sage Care
Plant Denim 'n Lace Russian Sage in full sun. It grows in any soil type, as long as the soil drains well. The shrub needs a little extra water in the first year, but then should need little water other than natural rain. Leave the bare branches for winter interest; you also can cut branches for flower arrangements. Prune the shrub to about 6 to 12 inches tall in late winter or early spring.
Denim 'n Lace Russian Sage Spacing
For borders, plant Denim 'n Lace Russian Sage about 3 feet apart from the center of one plant to another. Give single plants a featured spot in your garden for colorful drama.
