Deschampsia Goldtau Grass or Golden Dew Tufted Hair Grass is an attractive ornamental grass that is durable and low maintenance. The tall, thin foliage has a golden color, and it grows densely, giving it a lush appearance. Cloud-like flowers bloom from summer to fall. The seed heads stay in place throughout the winter, providing color and texture against the winter landscape.
Use the Golden Dew Tufted Hair Grass as an accent in a mixed planting or add texture alongside a driveway, mailbox, or entryway. Several plants grouped together create an impressive mass planting. This ornamental grass is deer resistant, so it will continue providing color and texture, even in areas with significant deer populations. Deschampsia Goldtau Grass grows as a perennial in zones 4 through 9.
Deschampsia Goldtau Grass Care
Deschampsia Goldtau Grass grows best in partial sun to partial shade. A spot that receives morning sun and afternoon shade is preferred. It requires moist, well-drained soil. This tufted grass likes moisture and grows best in a naturally damp area. Water during a dry period to support growth. Fertilize the Deschampsia Goldtau annually in the spring using a slow-release plant food.
Prune this grass in late winter or early spring before new growth appears. Remove dead or damaged growth as necessary.
Deschampsia Goldtau Grass Spacing
Deschampsia Goldtau Grass reaches 16 to 30 inches tall and spreads 24 to 36 inches wide. Plant this ornamental grass 24 inches apart to create a swath of wispy foliage.
