Daylilies are easy to maintain, so you’ll have more time to admire the lovely blooms. The Desert Flame Daylily has reddish-orange flowers with yellow centers. The bold colors ensure this plant will be the focal point of a bed or border. Ruffled petals give the plant a subtle texture. Hemerocallis 'Desert Flame' blooms twice, in mid-summer and again in late summer, for twice the enjoyment of the blooms.
The cheerful flowers are perched on top of sturdy, branched stems that reach 24 - 36 inches tall, making this a good plant to feature in the middle or back of a bed. The flowers are offset by lush, green foliage. Both butterflies and hummingbirds will pay the flowers a visit. All greenery dies back in the fall, and new growth will emerge each spring. The Desert Flame Daylily grows as a perennial in USDA zones 3 through 8.
Desert Flame Daylily Care
Desert Flame Daylily plants need full sun to partial shade, so choose a spot that receives at least 4 to 6 hours of sunlight. This stunner can live in low-quality soil but plant it in rich, well-drained soil for best results. Apply a balanced fertilizer every two weeks during the summer.
This Hemerocallis is a repeat bloomer, and you can help encourage the second flush of flowers by removing spent blooms. Trim faded flowers at the base of the stem to help the plant redirect energy into new growth.
Desert Flame Daylily Spacing
The Desert Flame Daylily will grow 24 to 36 inches tall and spread out 18 to 24 inches. When planting, space plants 8 to 10 inches apart to create a dense look.
