The Designer Threads™ Creamy Calico Coreopsis is a native plant with some seriously pretty flowers. The petals of the Coreopsis verticillata are such a soft, creamy yellow that they almost appear white. A deep maroon eye provides a stunning contrast. Each flower is unique, and gaps often appear between the petals. The negative space between the petals offers definition and texture. Enjoy these flowers throughout the summer. Thin, green foliage provides extra color and texture.
This lovely Coreopsis is native to North America, so once this plant settles in, it does not require much care. The showy flowers attract bees and butterflies. Add the Designer Threads™ Creamy Calico Coreopsis to a mixed bed or create a lovely mass planting. Trim stems to include the flowers in arrangements. Grow the Designer Threads™ Creamy Calico Coreopsis in zones 5 through 9.
Designer Threads™ Creamy Calico Coreopsis Care
Coreopsis plants need full sun to look their best. These plants are not picky about soil as long as it is moist, well drained, and acidic to neutral. The Designer Threads™ Creamy Calico Coreopsis has average water needs and should be watered regularly the first growing season. While these plants are mildew resistant, water the ground around the plant and not the foliage when possible. Fertilizer is only necessary when plants are grown in low-quality soil.
Deadhead the daisy-like flowers to keep the plant looking tidy and prevent self-seeding if you don’t want the plants to spread. Cut the plant back by half after flowering ends to encourage another flush of flowers.
Designer Threads™ Creamy Calico Coreopsis Spacing
The Designer Threads™ Creamy Calico Coreopsis stands 16 to 18 inches tall and 24 to 28 inches wide. Space plants 24 to 28 inches apart so air can circulate around the foliage.
