Dragon Slayer Adam's Needle Yucca forms a dense, rounded rosette of powdery blue leaves that holds shape all year without asking for much in return. This evergreen succulent reaches about 24 inches tall and spreads 30 to 36 inches wide, giving dry gardens a strong architectural anchor even when nothing is in bloom. It looks more polished than many older yuccas, with a compact habit and proportionate flower scapes that keep the plant from feeling oversized or unruly. We recommend it lately for hard, exposed sites where softer perennials would struggle or disappear.
Creamy white flowers rise on sturdy scapes in early summer, adding vertical interest without overwhelming the rosette below. This North American native hybrid has rigid sword-like leaves edged in fine white filaments that give it excellent tolerance for drought, heat, salt, deer, and rabbits. It works especially well in rock gardens, gravel beds, modern foundation plantings, and dry patio containers where the blue foliage can contrast with stone, mulch, or darker companions. Because the foliage stays present through winter, it keeps the planting from going flat after the flowering season ends.
Dragon Slayer Adam's Needle Yucca Care
Plant in full sun for the strongest form, although it will handle part sun, in sharply drained soil with an acidic, neutral, or alkaline pH. Sandy, rocky, or lean soils suit it well, and heavy clay should be improved before planting. Drainage is critical, especially in winter.
Water regularly during the first growing season, but cut back once the plant is rooted in. Established plants need minimal supplemental water except during long dry stretches, and overwatering is more likely to cause trouble than drought. Fertilizer is rarely needed in the ground, but a light spring feeding can help container plants maintain color and steady growth.
Leave the foliage in place year-round, since it stays evergreen and continues to provide structure through winter. After flowering, cut the spent scape down at the base to keep the rosette looking clean. Mature plants may produce offsets over time, and those can be divided and replanted once they are large enough to handle easily.
Dragon Slayer Adam's Needle Yucca Spacing
Space Dragon Slayer Adam's Needle Yucca 30 to 36 inches apart so each rosette can develop its full rounded form without crowding. For containers, choose a pot at least 18 to 20 inches wide with excellent drainage and enough weight to balance the plant.
Pair Dragon Slayer Adam's Needle Yucca with penstemon and sedum for a dry-garden mix that carries bloom around the yucca without fighting its bold texture. In containers, use ice plant and verbena to soften the spiky form while keeping the planting suited to sun and fast-draining soil.
