Bring texture into your garden by adding Heuchera ‘Evening Gown’ to your landscape. This mid-summer blooming perennial will appease those who gaze upon either the white flowers or the black and purple ruffled foliage. It is great as a contrast plant or as a focal point. Its mounding habit yields growth of 12”-14” tall and 20”-24” wide with a scape height of up to 20”.
Native to North America, your local pollinators will be quite happy stopping by your garden. This attracts hummingbirds, bees and butterflies! Even though it may not be in bloom for long, the foliage makes up by providing an appealing texture and dark color as an evergreen. Use within mass planting, border planting, container gardening, landscape and even as a cut flower. If you live by the ocean or where salt is used for de-icing, this plant will thrive with its salt tolerance. Maintenance is next to none, so you can plant it and forget it if you’d like!
Dressed Up Evening Gown Coral Bells Care
Planting in partial shade will allow this to thrive, however it will continue to grow in either predominantly sun or shade. If placed in full sun, the intensity of the dark colors will be lessened. Either neutral or slightly acidic pH soil will do well. Average or fertile soil is recommended, but do use soil that is well draining to prevent waterlogged roots. Watering is best done on a consistent basis by not allowing standing water overtop of the roots.
Pruning is minimal and can be done as seen fit. To determine whether this needs to be pruned, observe the foliage for tattered and torn leaves and trim below the affected area(s).
Dressed Up Evening Gown Coral Bells Spacing
Keep in mind that this is a shorter mounding variety. Recommended spacing is 20”-24”, center on center, for most applications. Container gardening can be spaced closer about 12”-18” from the center of the plant, keeping an eye on neighboring plants to ensure the roots are not fighting for nutrients and growth space.
