A dwarf evergreen variety of Mondo Grass, perfect for use as a groundcover or edging. Striking in mass plantings or in rock gardens. Excellent substitute for grass where grass doesn’t grow well or in hard to mow areas, such as slopes. Dwarf Mondo Grass botanical name is Ophiopogon japonicus ‘Nanus'. There is also mondo grass which grows up to 15 inches tall.

Dwarf Mondo Grass Care

Plant in well-drained soil and water regularly to establish. Once established, Mondo Grass is drought tolerant. Mulch new plantings, after applying a pre-emergent herbicide to control weeds. Does not tolerate a great deal of foot traffic. Mow in late fall or early spring.

Dwarf Mondo Grass Spacing

You can plant these plugs 2-4 inches apart, depending on how fast you want the grass to fill in between. Stagger rows to help provide better coverage (image below).

To calculate how many plants to use, take the square feet of the area you are filling, and multiply that by 1.45 for 4 inch spacing.
Example:
120 (Sq Ft) x 1.45 = 174 (plugs)

Dwarf Mondo Grass was good size and very healthy,...

Posted by Alyson Emanuel on Oct 03, 2020

My two trays of dwarf mondo grass arrived very promptly and are good size (3.5 inch pots) and are very healthy. The shipping was a bit rough (the bottom tray was upside down in the box!), but this did not affect the plants. I was able to divide each pot, and so ended up with twice as many as delivered. Very happy with quality and service.

Posted by Kevin Wade on Apr 14, 2020

We live in the south so our summers get pretty hot. These grasses do just fantastic here. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase from plant addicts. Excellent customer service and the plants arrived in great shape about a week after I ordered. I'll definitely be ordering again!

    Driveway

Posted by Arthur B on Oct 07, 2018

I planted several hundred of these along my driveway as a border for added beauty but low maintenance garden edging. I am not sure why everyone doesn't grow these???
