Hosta is a hardy perennial that can thrive in most conditions and will add lush greenery to a landscape. The Earth Angel Hosta is a stunner that features broad blue-green leaves that come to a point and feature a one-inch margin that starts as yellow during the spring and fades to a cream color by summer. By mid-summer, delicate bell-shaped light lavender flowers will grow from 40-inch tall stalks that emerge from the center of the plant. This plant will be one of the first to appear in the spring and the last to fade back in the fall.
This clump-forming plant grows in a rosette formation. Plant in beds or borders with early spring-blooming bulbs so by the time bulbs die back, the lush foliage of the Hosta will overtake the space. Use as a specimen planting, border a patio, deck, or foundation, or add greenery to a shady corner of your landscape. This hardy plant is a perennial in USDA zones 3 through 9.
Earth Angel Hosta Care
Hosta will need consistent water for the first growing season, but it will be self-sufficient once acclimated. Water weekly or when the soil dries out. Plant in full sun to partial shade. This perennial needs at least 4 to 6 hours of daily sunlight. Soil should be moist and well-draining. Feed Hosta using a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in the spring.
Cut back the flower stalks after three-fourths of the flowers have opened, so the flowers do not go to seed, and the plant will continue to put energy into the foliage. Trim back all of the growth to the ground level after the first frost. Apply a layer of mulch to protect the roots from chilly winter temperatures. Divide Hosta every few years to thin the plants out.
Earth Angel Hosta Spacing
Earth Angel Hosta will grow 2 to 3 feet tall and 3 to 5 feet wide. Space plants 5 feet apart so the leafy tips of neighboring plants will touch and create a continuous planting.
