Abundant clusters of floribunda-type roses cover the Easy Elegance® Chi™ rose, providing a punch of brilliant red color throughout the summer. The fully double flowers do not require deadheading, making for one less gardening chore. Easy Elegance® Chi™ grows on its own roots and is reliably hardy in growing zones 5-8. Adding this shrub rose to your garden design may be the final touch you have been looking for.
Easy Elegance® roses are bred to require the lowest maintenance of any shrub rose, while also producing copious amounts of flowers to use in arrangements or enjoy in the garden. The clear green foliage is highly resistant to pests and disease, making this rose a great choice for both novice and seasoned gardeners. Plant Easy Elegance® Chi™ rose in a dedicated rose bed, an informal mixed hedge to screen a property or fenceline, or in containers and planters to add sophisticated and colorful curb appeal to your home.
Easy Elegance Chi™ Rose Care
Shrub roses are known to be fairly easy to grow when they are planted in the right location. Provide at least 6 hours of direct sun and well-drained but moisture-retentive soil. Fertilization is key to supporting the profusion of flowers that occur for many months. A specialized rose food in a granular, slow-release formulation takes away any guesswork about application timing. Apply according to the manufacturer's recommendation early in the spring and again as the flower buds begin to develop. Use drip irrigation or soaker hoses if possible to keep the foliage dry, lessening the risks of diseases and pests.
Pruning self-rooted roses is only needed late in the winter to remove any damaged, dead, dying, or diagonally growing branches. Cut the oldest canes by about one third to encourage a more compact structure. Deadheading is not a requirement for this rose to continue blooming all summer, but the judicious cutting of flower stems for arranging will help this plant keep its tidy and compact shape.
Roses grown in containers may need to be moved to a sheltered location during the winter. Place them out of the path of prevailing wind and storms or temporarily in an unheated greenhouse or garage where they will stay cool. This rose requires excellent drainage throughout the year. Amend heavier clay soils with organic compost yearly to lighten the texture and improve drainage.
Easy Elegance Chi™ Rose Spacing
Easy Elegance Chi™ is a compact shrub rose that grows annually to a height and width of 3-4 feet. Grown as a specimen, you can fit this well-behaved shrub into just about any garden space alongside perennials and other shrubs. Plant perennials at least 12 inches away from the base, and space multiple roses 40 inches apart from the center of each plant.
