Elaeagnus x ebbingei is known for its fantastic evergreen nature. In the spring, new leaves emerge with a silvery hue, which fades to a beautiful dark green. The undersides of the leaves retain their silver tone. In the fall, this plant blooms with showy, fragrant white flowers, providing one last hurrah before winter. Reddish brown fruits develop in the spring and are edible – though you might have to race the birds! Elaeagnus x ebbingei is a shrub ideal for hedges or foundational plantings with its drought tolerant nature and beautiful foliage.
Ebbinge's Silverberry Care
Plant Elaeagnus x ebbingei in well-drained soils, and water regularly until established. Fertilize if desired in the spring, and prune after flowering if required.
Ebbinge's Silverberry Spacing
For a dense hedge, space Elaeagnus x ebbingei 8 to 9 feet apart on-center. For foundational plantings, plant shrubs at least 10 to 11 feet apart center-to-center.
