The Edgy® Hearts Hydrangea is a bigleaf hydrangea with mophead flowers. The flowers on this shrub are truly unique, with heart shaped pink flowers that are variegated with white edges. The flowers can be changed to blue with acidic soils or by adding aluminum sulphate.

The flowers are grown on very strong stems that create perfect flowers for cut flower arrangements or bouquets. Grow these shrubs in mass plantings for a dramatic impact to any landscape, or to have enough flowers for an entire wedding!

The leaves are glossy green that create a darker foliage background to highlight the flowers. This is a medium sized hydrangea, perfect for landscaping, larger containers, or a statement bush in the garden.

Edgy Hearts Hydrangea Care

This macrophylla needs to be cared for just like other hydrangeas of that type. Well drained soil is a must to prevent root rot. But ensure there is moisture by weekly waterings, if not more during hot summer months. Plant in a location with morning sun, but afternoon shade if possible. If you plant in full-sun, be sure to water more frequently during hot summer days or periods of drought, especially in southern states.

To prune edgy hearts hydrangeas, be sure to do so right after flowering. However, it is best to not prune these shrubs if possible, because the flowers grow on old wood (the previous year’s branches that grow). Also, you need to protect the branches and the plants during harsh winters to ensure the shrub flowers the following year. Flower buds are easily damaged in colder climates like zone 5 and 6, so if you do not protect the plants, the buds could die and the bush will not flower the following year.

Edgy Hearts Hydrangea Spacing

Plant the Edgy Hearts Hydrangea 36 to 60 inches apart, center on center. To create a landscaping border, or hedge, plant these 24 to 36 inches apart center on center. If you choose to use these in garden pots, only use 1 plant per container, unless the container is very large and over 6 feet wide.

Plant Addicts Warranty - 1 Year (Extra Purchase Required)

We encourage all plant lovers to purchase the Plant Addicts Warranty, whether you're a new gardener or an expert. There are many variables outside of anyone's control that can cause a plant to die. Hungry animals, drought, poor soil conditions, over watering, diseases & pests are all good examples of what can cause plants to die. The Plant Addicts Warranty is a 1 year warranty protecting you from all of the unknowns and will replace your plant if something were to happen to it.

The warranty is purchased on a per plant basis and must be purchased at the same time as the plant(s). We will cover 100% of the price of the plant, but the warranty does not cover shipping costs. SImply let us know if your plant has died within 1 year of receiving it and we will get you a new one shipped out as soon as possible (depending on the time of the year and availability). We may ask for photos for documentation purposes, but we try to make the process as easy as possible.

Guarantee and Warranty

Plant Shipping

Below are some factors we consider when determining when to ship the plants depending on the timing of the order.

Winter to Early Spring

We ship only when it's warm enough to plant in your growing zone.
Sometimes plants aren't completely ready to sell and ship in early spring. We will wait until the plants are ready before shipping so you don't get a subpar product.
For Southern plants we will be able to ship much earlier than plants coming from our northern nursery.

Summer

If there is extreme heat we may delay shipping for a week or several weeks.
We review what areas the plants are traveling through as well as your location.

Fall into Winter

We’ll ship plants out all the way up to the end of the fall planting season!

Winter

Get your order in early to reserve your plants for Spring planting!

Once your plant is shipped you’ll receive an automated email with tracking information.
