Are you looking for one plant that attracts ALL of the beneficial pollinators, Hummingbirds and butterflies? Bee Balm is the plant for you. Perfect for the smaller garden or even container growing because one plant can do many jobs. Electric Neon Pink Bee Balm will attract any and all of the pollinators in your area. The giant 3 inch blooms and foliage have a heady, spicy scent that is held well as the plant dries for potpourri or even an herbal tea.
Bee Balm is best planted in large swathes of color, although this variety would work in the smaller urban garden as a specimen plant paired with ornamental grasses or Shasta Daisies. Deer and rabbits do not like to browse Bee Balm. Diseases such as mildews and rusts are not an issue with Electric Neon Pink. This variety has been bred to be much more disease and pest resistant than older types.
Electric Neon Pink Bee Balm Care
Electric Neon Bee Balm is very low maintenance and carefree once it establishes in your garden. Full sun and well drained, moist soil will help it stay perky and upright throughout a hot summer. Planted in part shade will encourage this herbaceous perennial to spread faster than if in full sun. A neutral to alkaline soil pH is preferred and can be maintained by mulching with a light layer of organic compost in the spring.
Deadheading on a regular basis will encourage blooms to continue through the summer into the fall. Fertilizing with a well balanced, slow release food early in the spring will help to support healthy foliage growth and flowering. Dividing is easily done in the early spring as the new shoots emerge. Keeping the newly transplanted division waters is important for the following year.
Electric Neon Pink Bee Balm Spacing
Electric Neon Pink Bee Balm is a very well behaved, clumping perennial. The mature height and width is 18-24 inches. Keeping Bee Balm well spaced from other plants is key to keeping diseases like mildew and fungal rusts away. Air circulation is very important. Spacing plants at 24 inches on center is recommended.
