Elizabeth Ashley Hydrangea, or Hydrangea mac. Elizabeth Ashley is a dense, reblooming variety of hydrangea with mammoth, long-lasting globes of floriferous flowers that bloom from May through September. Reaching to heights of 3 to 4 feet with a spread of 3 to 4 feet, the flowers of this exciting hydrangea are bright shades of pink or blue, depending on the pH of the soil where they are planted. To offset these colorful blooms, the Elizabeth Ashley Hydrangea has a vibrant bed of deep-green foliage. As the flowers of Elizabeth Ashley mature, the flowers take on hints of green.
This stunning hydrangea is sure to be a favorite in your container or garden. Created to honor the memory of the grower’s child, who was tragically killed by a drunk driver, the Elizabeth Ashley Hydrangea honors the same vibrancy and zest for life as its namesake. It is a rounded variety with a clean, symmetrical habit. They are season-long bloomers, with new flowers maturing and blooming each month. Hydrangeas make excellent cut flowers and are a favorite of growers and florists, as they have a long vase life.
Elizabeth Ashley Hydrangea Care
The low-maintenance Elizabeth Ashley Hydrangea thrives in full sun to partial shade. It should be watered regularly until established, about an inch of water per week. You should feed your hydrangeas yearly with a time-release fertilizer.
This variety grows on both old and new wood and requires minimal pruning. If you would like to prune your hydrangeas for size or shape, it is best to do it after they bloom in late summer.
Elizabeth Ashley Hydrangea Spacing
The Elizabeth Ashley Hydrangea can be incorporated into arrangements and bouquets to provide splashes of color, layers, and dimension. They are a focal point planted in shady, compact spaces, or in pots and containers. Hydrangeas need adequate air flow and should be spaced 3 feet apart center to center.
