The Enduring Fuchsia™ Crape Myrtle is good for busy or hands-off gardeners who want a showy and dependable shrub. Also known as Lagerstroemia hybrid 'PIILAG B3,' this shrub has a lovely floral display from June through September. Purplish-pink flowers have frilly petals and bloom in clusters, creating an impressive and full display. The blooms may take on more of a red tone when summer temperatures soar. New leaves emerge red before transitioning into a deep green by summer.
Feature this beauty in a hedge along a fence or foundation wall. Create a border around an outdoor entertaining area or conceal a utility box or HVAC unit. Enduring Fuchsia™ Crape Myrtle is enduring and can handle hot, dry summer weather while looking fabulous. This cultivar is disease and pest resistant, and deer generally leave it alone, ensuring you’ll have a dependable plant that requires very little attention.
Enduring Fuchsia™ Crape Myrtle Care
Select a sunny spot for the Enduring Fuchsia™ Crape Myrtle that receives at least 6 hours of daylight. Although crape myrtle can handle poor-quality soil, it prefers moist, well-drained soil with high organic content for best results. New shrubs need water several times per week during the first year, and established plants need water weekly, especially in hot climates. Apply a slow-release fertilizer annually each spring.
Pruning is not required, and Crape Myrtle will bloom without regular trims, but routine pruning encourages a full, bushy form. Prune the Enduring Fuchsia™ Crape Myrtle in late winter to remove crossed branches, overgrowth, and shoots.
Enduring Fuchsia™ Crape Myrtle Spacing
The lovely Enduring Fuchsia™ Crape Myrtle reaches 4 to 6 feet tall and wide. Create a hedge by spacing shrubs 4 to 6 feet apart.
