The heat- and drought-tolerant Enduring Lavender™ Crape Myrtle is a versatile shrub for those hot and sunny borders or warmer locations. Lagerstroemia hybrid 'PIILAG B4' as it is also known is a large shrub or tree that grows to around 12 to 14 feet tall and produces lavender-colored flowers from early summer onwards. Its green foliage takes on a lovely autumnal red hue, extending interest into the fall.
The Enduring Lavender™ Crape Myrtle forms an upright and bushy habit. Its shiny dark green leaves nicely set off the lavender flower clusters. It is usually left alone by deer and is suitable for growing in zones 6 to 10. In the right conditions, the Enduring Lavender™ Crape Myrtle is robust and needs little ongoing maintenance. Plant it at the back of a border to use as an accent shrub or small tree.
Enduring Lavender™ Crape Myrtle Care
The Enduring Lavender™ Crape Myrtle grows best when it is given full sun and well-drained soil that is fertile and moist. Water regularly after planting and for the first growing season. Once established, it can tolerate dry spells. An application of a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in spring will help support its vigorous growth and flowering potential.
Late winter or early spring is the best time to prune the Enduring Lavender™ Crape Myrtle. Trim to shape and remove any dead, damaged or wayward branches.
Enduring Lavender™ Crape Myrtle Spacing
When fully mature, the Enduring Lavender™ Crape Myrtle can reach a size of 12 to 14 feet tall and 6 to 8 feet wide. When planting in a group, a spacing of 6 to 8 feet apart will allow these large shrubs to develop their bushy habit.
