Equinox Valley Lilac, Syringa x hyacinthiflora ’Equinox Valley’ has abundant double flowers that are sweetly fragrant and bred to be 1/3 larger than other Lilac varieties. The upright branches of Equinox Valley Lilac are topped with tapered panicles; deep purple-red buds appear in early May and open into unique, double, lavender-purple, fragrant flowers. A must-have for indoor cut-flower arrangements.
This fragrant, deer-resistant beauty is a pollinator magnet. Equinox Valley Lilac grows in USDA hardiness zones 3-8 and reaches up to 12 ft high and 4-8 feet wide. Use it as a colorful hedge that will quickly fill in and provide privacy. This lilac is lovely when strategically placed near walkways, decks, or entrance ways, so the magnificent fragrance and blooms can be enjoyed up close.
Equinox Valley Lilac Care
Plant Equinox Valley in a sunny location for best flowering with at least 6 or more hours each day of direct sunlight. It performs best when grown in well-draining soil, ideally rich in organic matter such as garden compost, but it can tolerate a range of soil types once established. Equinox Valley Lilac requires consistent water, but never enjoys sitting in soggy soil.
Remove flowers when faded or dried to encourage more growth. The only pruning needed is for shaping; do this right after your Equinox Valley Lilac is finished blooming in the spring.
Equinox Valley Lilac Spacing
Equinox Valley Lilac is an excellent selection used as a fragrant and colorful flowering shrub border or as a single garden specimen. When planting as a hedge, space plants 6-7 feet apart to ensure the branches have plenty of sun and air circulation.
