Disappointed by your yard’s lack of color at the end of fall? If so, Eva Gold English Heath is your vibrant solution. Featuring showy foliage that’s green in the spring, coppery bronze in the summer, and then green again in the winter accompanied by stalks of brilliant fuchsia, bell-shaped florets that bloom throughout spring, this perennial provides interest year-round. Growing to 1 to 2 feet high and 2 to 3 feet wide, this shrub, otherwise known as Erica x darleyensis f. aureifolia 'Eva Gold' and Darley Dale Heath 'Eva Gold', is cold hardy in zones 6 to 8 and attracts lots of pollinators including birds and bees.
Eva Gold English Heath produces a faint floral, woodsy perfume. This evergreen winter heath possesses a compact, mound-forming habit. Originating from Europe, this shrub is deer resistant; you don’t have to worry about a local gang of deer snuffing out this showy plant’s foliage in one night. An easy-to-grow shrub, it is the perfect choice for any person yearning to brighten up a dull winter landscape without having to dedicate a lot of time and hard work.
Eva Gold English Heath Care
Eva Gold English Heath prefers full sun. To maximize its year-round interest, plant this showy shrub in moist, loamy, slightly acidic to neutral, well-draining soil. This striking plant possesses average watering needs. Provide it with approximately one inch of water per week. While appreciating moisture, this evergreen does not tolerate soggy soil. Check the moisture level before watering, and water when the top one to two inches of soil are dry. Eva Gold English Heath tolerates nutrient-deficient soil. Fertilizer is rarely needed, although you can topdress with compost in the spring.
A low-maintenance shrub, Eva Gold English Heath does not require frequent pruning. At the end of its blooming season, lightly prune this shrub to encourage future growth and a compact form.
Eva Gold English Heath Spacing
Eva Gold English Heath complements other perennials such as azaleas, crocus, daffodils, iris, and rhododendron when grown in borders and beds. This shrub grows well when planted on banks/slopes and in containers. Space plants 2 to 3 feet apart.
