FantAsiatic lilies are extra small plants that pack a big punch of color for even the smallest gardening space. Hot-Spot yellow lily has enormous flowers covering compact stems that are the perfect size for growing in containers on a deck or patio. The flowers are long lived both on the plant or in flower arrangements. The clear yellow color is outstanding mixed with complementary blues and purple shades of other summer bloomers like petunias, salvia, and ornamental alliums.
Fantasiatic lilies are possibly the easiest lilies to grow. No deadheading or staking is required due to the extra sturdy stems. Deer may browse other lily species but do not typically bother the Asiatic types. When they are planted in containers, the large flowers are even less likely to disappear. Plant this low-growing perennial bulb at the front of a cottage garden border for added color impact or use it in planters as a thriller or filler plant.
Fantasiatic Hot-Spot Yellow Lily Care
Lilies require full sun to bloom well and maintain sturdy upright stems. The soil should be well draining with good moisture retention. Fertilize lily bulbs at the beginning of the growing season with a granular fertilizer formulated for bulbs. For plants in containers, apply another feeding just as the flowers form. Water plants consistently early in the season to assist in flower formation. Watering can be reduced after flowering but should not stop completely until the foliage has fully died back for the fall.
Deadhead FantAsiatic lilies to tidy the appearance. Cut back the stems only after the foliage has fully yellowed or died back. Repot container-grown lilies every 2-3 years to ensure that the root system has plenty of room. Dividing up large clusters of bulbs will keep the plants growing vigorously and blooming at their best.
Fantasiatic Hot-Spot Yellow Lily Spacing
The small size of FantAsiatic lilies makes them great for tucking into empty spaces in a garden bed or a planter that needs a shot of color. These plants typically reach 16-18 inches high with a spread of 12-14 inches by early summer. Space plants 12 inches apart to allow for good air circulation. Pots with at least a diameter of 8 inches are recommended for growing single plants.
