Select Fantasiatic Orange Asiatic Lily when a border or patio pot needs strong summer color without the height of older garden forms. At just 10 to 12 inches tall and 10 to 12 inches wide, this compact selection brings saturated orange flowers down where they are easy to see, cut, and enjoy. This asiatic lily fits small gardens far better than taller types. We often recommend this one for customers who want outstanding lily flowers but do not want to deal with a lanky planting.
This deciduous bulbous perennial has an upright habit, green strap-like foliage, and a summer bloom period conducive to mixed beds and container designs. The flowers are especially useful for cutting, and the shorter, sturdy stems help the display stay polished even in tighter spaces. The flowers draw bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. It works well in grouped plantings near the front of a sunny bed, around mailbox gardens, or in patio containers where the orange tones can warm up surrounding foliage.
Fantasiatic Orange Asiatic Lily Care
Plant Fantasiatic Orange Asiatic Lily in full sun and in loose, well-drained soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH. This lily handles average garden conditions well, but heavy clay should be improved or mounded so the bulbs do not sit wet. Pick a site with good air movement and dependable drainage through winter.
Water when the top 2 to 3 inches of soil feel dry, then soak deeply around the base of the plant. Keep irrigation off the foliage and open flowers when possible, especially during bloom. Feed in spring with a slow-release fertilizer or use a light liquid feed during active growth. Let the plant go dormant naturally after flowering as the foliage yellows back.
Snip spent blooms to keep the planting neat, but leave as much stem and foliage as possible until it fades since that growth is feeding the bulb for next year. In early fall, you can divide established clumps if they have become crowded or bloom production starts to taper off. Container-grown bulbs benefit from winter protection in colder zones, either by moving pots to a sheltered location or insulating the container.
Fantasiatic Orange Asiatic Lily Spacing
Space bulbs or plants 10 to 12 inches apart so each clump has room to flower fully without looking cramped. For containers, use a pot at least 12 inches across with enough depth for the bulbs and companion roots.
In the garden, pair this lily with beardtongue and black-eyed Susans for a sunny planting that carries strong color before and after the lilies bloom. In mixed containers, try Fantasiatic Orange with petunias and sweet potato vines, where the trailing growth helps soften the upright flower stems.
