Fantasiatic Red Asiatic Lily brings saturated red flowers to the garden on a compact plant that stays just 10 to 12 inches tall and wide. That smaller size makes it especially useful in containers, edging, and front-of-bed plantings where taller stems would feel awkward or block neighboring plants. Our landscape designers plant this one where summer color needs to look strong and deliberate in a tighter footprint.
This bulbous perennial flowers in summer on upright stems with clean green foliage that makes the flower color look even richer. Like other Asiatic lilies, it is winter hardy, dependable, and easy to work into mixed plantings. The blooms are well suited to cutting, and the plant draws bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds into sunny beds. Use it in repeated groups along a walkway, in a low border that needs a strong midsummer lift, or in a container where the flowers can sit close to eye level.
Fantasiatic Red Asiatic Lily Care
Plant Fantasiatic Red Asiatic Lily in full sun for the best bloom count and strongest stems, although it can handle part sun in warmer climates. It grows best in well-drained soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH, and it appreciates loose soil that allows the bulbs to settle in quickly. Avoid ground that stays wet for long periods, especially in winter, because lily bulbs are much more likely to decline in soggy conditions.
Water when the top 2 to 3 inches of soil begin to dry, soaking the root zone well instead of watering lightly every day. Feed during active growth with a balanced fertilizer every few weeks, or apply a slow-release fertilizer in spring if that is easier for your routine. After flowering, let the foliage remain until it yellows and fades so the bulb can store energy for next year.
Remove spent blooms once they pass, but leave the stems and leaves in place until they die back on their own. Cut the plant down after the foliage yellows, and in colder regions add a light winter mulch once the soil has cooled. Container-grown bulbs benefit from winter protection, since repeated freeze and thaw cycles can be harder on pots than garden beds.
Fantasiatic Red Asiatic Lily Spacing
Space plants 10 to 12 inches apart so each stem gets light and air without crowding the bulbs below. For containers, use a pot at least 12 to 14 inches wide, or a larger planter if you want to group several bulbs for a fuller display.
Pair Fantasiatic Red Asiatic Lily with daylilies and irises so the red blooms sit against fuller foliage and a second layer of color. In containers, use creeping Jenny for trailing stems and geraniums around the rim to soften the edges.
