Growing Zones
The chartreuse foliage of this deciduous shrub will provide a bright spot in your garden from spring through fall. It also produces round clusters of showy white flowers from late spring to early summer on old wood at the ends of its branches. The tan, exfoliating bark provides winter interest once the serrated leaves have dropped off in autumn.
Physocarpus opulifolius 'Bert Dart's G' is cold tolerant and will be happy growing in a full sun location in USDA hardiness zones 3 to 7. It’s a great choice for using as an accent plant, in mass plantings, as a screening hedge or to add height to a perennial garden. It can also be grown in a large container but will probably need to be pruned more often to keep its size in check. It’s tolerant of urban pollution making it a great choice for urban gardens. It also produces small red berries in the fall.
Festivus Gold Ninebark Care
Festivus Gold Ninebark is multi-stemmed with a rounded form that reaches 3 to 4 feet in height with a 4 to 5-foot spread at maturity. It’s low maintenance but if pruning is desired it can be performed at any time without an adverse effect. The pretty white flowers attract bees, butterflies and other pollinators. Once established, it’s drought and fungal disease resistant. The flowering stems can be trimmed and used to create bouquets.
Festivus Gold Ninebark Spacing
Space plants 3 to 4 feet on center. This long-lived North American native shrub should last up to 30 years in your landscape. It’s a great choice for adding a bright spot of color in a small urban yard.
