Echinacea Fine Feathered™ï¸ ‘Scarlet Ibis’, previously named ‘Flamingo’, is a high-performing, low-maintenance perennial. This bi-colored coneflower variety has medium-to-large, fragrant flowers in head-turning, rich, coral-pink shades and soft-white tips on each petal, mimicking the tones seen in a Flamingo. The beautiful warm coral color isn’t often seen in a perennial garden!
The central discs or ‘cones’ are dark amber-red and are a nutritious nectar resource for pollinators and butterflies. Scarlet Ibis Coneflower has a long flowering period–from July through September. It is also fantastic as a long-lasting cut flower when used in floral arrangements. It's hardy in Zones 4-9, and grows 18-20 inches in both height and width. Fine Feathered™ Scarlet Ibis Coneflowers work just as well when grown in containers as they do in the landscape.
Fine Feathered™ï¸ Scarlet Ibis Coneflower Care
Coneflowers love full sun; the best spot to plant them is where they will receive at least 6 or more hours of direct sunlight daily. Fine Feathered™ Scarlet Ibis isn’t fussy and will tolerate most soil types, but it does not enjoy sitting in soggy soil. Plant it in well-draining, fertile soil, rich in organic matter such as garden compost.
Scarlet Ibis Coneflower can easily be planted in containers; just make sure the pot is at least 20 inches in diameter, has ample drainage, and is placed in a sunny location. Spur on additional flowering by regularly deadheading spent flowers. Scarlet Ibis can be fertilized with an organic, bloom-boosting fertilizer throughout the season for continual flowering.
Fine Feathered™ï¸ Scarlet Ibis Coneflower Spacing
Plant this coneflower in mixed borders, cutting gardens, containers, or groupings to make a big impact. Space plants 16” apart or more on center when planting in groups, allowing for adequate air circulation between plants.
