You are going to love the peach-orange new growth and springtime blooms of the First Editions® Lucky Leu® Leucothoe. Botanically called, Leucothoe axillaris Lucky Lue, this evergreen shrub produces peachy-orange foliage that turns green with age and small white flowers in spring. It reaches a maximum of 5 feet tall over time.
Once established, the First Editions® Lucky Leu® Leucothoe is wonderfully low maintenance. It naturally develops a rounded shape and holds its leaves well over winter. Frost tolerant, Lucky Leu® is hardy in zones 6 to 9. It is originally native to parts of the southern United States and adapted to warm climates. This shrub is ideal for providing structure and interest in mixed beds and borders.
First Editions® Lucky Leu® Leucothoe Care
The First Editions® Lucky Leu® Leucothoe is happiest when grown in a sheltered spot in full sun to part shade. Protection from afternoon sun is beneficial in warm climates. It prefers moist soil that is acidic and well drained. Frequent irrigation is needed to keep the soil moist throughout the growing season. A balanced granular fertilizer applied in the spring will benefit this shrub.
Minimal to no pruning of the First Editions® Lucky Leu® Leucothoe is required. If needed, any damaged or wayward branches can be cut back after flowering.
First Editions® Lucky Leu® Leucothoe Spacing
The First Editions® Lucky Leu® Leucothoe can reach a final size of 3 to 5 feet tall and wide. When grown in a group, a plant spacing of 3 to 5 feet apart is appropriate.
