Growing Zones
Flamenco Trumpet Vine adds a burst of bold color to a landscape late in the summer season. Tubular, trumpet-shaped blooms are a vibrant red with a bold orange throat and grow in clusters. The Campsis radicans blooms from late July into September. Grow this vine as a perennial in USDA zones 4 through 8.
Hummingbirds and butterflies enjoy the sweet nectar produced by the flowers, so feature this plant in a visible area so that you can enjoy these visitors. The foliage is deer-resistant for dependable color and greenery. The Flamenco Trumpet Vine is a vigorous grower, and it may take a while for the leaves to emerge, but once this vine gets going, it can quickly spread out. This vine has a heavy woody structure, and it is a natural climber. Plant it near a trellis or a structure the vine can climb because if you don’t give it something to climb, it will cover whatever is nearby.
Flamenco Trumpet Vine Care
Plant this vine in a spot that receives at least 4 to 6 hours of sun. Soil should be rich and moist and water weekly or when the top few inches of soil dry out. Trumpet vines are not heavy feeders, and rich soil is enough to support plenty of growth. Top-dress the soil with organic compost in the spring to give the soil a boost.
Remove damaged growth and prune the plant in the spring to promote new growth. Flowers bloom on new growth, so encouraging more branching will lead to more flowers. Deadhead this vine to prevent the plant from self-seeding.
Flamenco Trumpet Vine Spacing
Flamenco Trumpet Vine can spread 30 to 40 feet. This plant can be an aggressive grower, so give it plenty of room to roam. Space Trumpet Vines 5 to 10 feet apart.
