Beautifully full flowers, stunning color, and fruity to taste – that’s right, we said taste! The Flavorette™ Honey-Apricot Rose is an edible rose. This 3-4 foot tall and wide rose bush has been bred to stun in the garden as well as on your plate. The Flavorette™ Honey-Apricot Rose (Rosa 'Boznatafra') has silky smooth apricot petals whorled tightly into a compact rosette, perched atop shiny green leaves. Add the petals to your favorite salad for a pop of color and flavor, or grow it as a standard rose bush, attracting pollinators and livening up your garden. Either way, someone is getting a snack!
The fragrant Flavorette™ Honey-Apricot Rose is a smallish mounding rose bush, allowing it to be grown in gardens of any size. This adaptable rose is disease resistant and reblooming, creating a show for weeks in the summer. The Flavorette™ Honey-Apricot Rose can be grown as a standalone stunner or planted together to create a beautiful, and edible, flowering hedge. As with most rose bushes, the Flavorette™ Honey-Apricot Rose is deciduous and will lose its leaves in the winter.
Flavorette™ Honey-Apricot Rose Care
The Flavorette™ Honey-Apricot Rose will grow best in moist, well-draining, slightly acidic soil, planted in full sun. To plant, dig a hole that is at least twice as wide and of the same depth as the root ball. In hotter, drier climates, mulch the root zone with a 2-3 inch layer of compost to help the soil retain water. In the spring, add a rose-specific, slow-release fertilizer, and follow up in a few weeks after the first bloom with a liquid rose fertilizer to encourage additional blooms.
The Flavorette™ Honey-Apricot Rose will benefit from regular maintenance and pruning. It is important to remove any dead or damaged branches to improve air flow. In the late winter or early spring, cut back the branches to maintain the bush’s shape and size, removing up to one-third of the plant’s mass. Old blooms can also be removed once they begin to fade to encourage continuous flowering.
Flavorette™ Honey-Apricot Rose Spacing
Plant the Flavorette™ Honey-Apricot Rose 3-4 feet away from other plants to allow it room to grow. When creating a hedge or mass planting, bushes can be planted slightly closer together, though it is important to ensure that there is still air flow in and around the plants to prevent the spread of disease.
