Flower Carpet® Mini Cherry Rose, a compact groundcover rose, features masses of small, bright red blooms offset by lustrous emerald leaves. Bred by Flower Carpet Roses, this shrub blooms continuously from spring until fall’s first frost. This carpet rose is cold hardy in zones 5 to 10 and low maintenance, making it a fantastic choice for busy gardeners all over the US.

Flower Carpet® Mini Cherry Rose has a low, bushy growth habit. Relatively disease and drought tolerant, this variety adds bold, problem-free color and texture to beds and borders. Whether planted as a specimen or en masse as ground cover, this showy shrub will provide three dependable seasons of interest. Its compact size, brilliant color, and delicate texture will enhance cottage gardens, foundation plantings, and slopes. 

Flower Carpet® Mini Cherry Rose Care

While tolerant of partial sun, this shrub grows bushier and produces more blooms in full sun. Plant it in organic soil that’s moist and well draining. Amend poor soil with compost to improve drainage and fertility. Water regularly during the first season until its roots are established, and provide about an inch of water weekly thereafter. Apply a slow-release fertilizer designed for roses, such as Espoma’s 4-3-2 Rose-Tone in spring and summer.

Low-maintenance Flower Carpet® Mini Cherry Rose requires minimal pruning and is relatively self-cleaning. Before new growth appears in spring, cut back the stems to 6 to 10 inches high. Mulch in the fall to protect the roots from cold weather. 

Due to its compact size, this groundcover rose grows well in a large container. Use it to add focal interest to porches, patios, decks, and bare garden spaces. Plant it in a 2-foot wide container filled with all-purpose potting soil. If the soil does not drain well, mix in extra perlite. Plant it alone or add parsley and alyssum in a lovely thriller-filler-spiller combination.

Flower Carpet® Mini Cherry Rose Spacing

Flower Carpet® Mini Cherry Rose grows to 1 to 2 feet high and 2-3 feet wide. For borders, space plants 2.5 feet apart. Plant in beds and containers with compatible plants, including marigolds, geraniums, and coreopsis.
