Continuously blooming from July to October, the French Cabaret™ Purple Hibiscus is a low-maintenance shrub that can create one of the most eye-catching hedges around. This shrub has fluffy, violet and lilac-purple, double blooms, sturdy upright stems, and lush, green leaves. The French Cabaret Purple Hibiscus grows tall and narrow, reaching 5-8 feet wide and 4-7 feet wide. Like other Hibiscus/Rose of Sharon, this shrub is easy to grow, grows quickly, and requires little maintenance.
When planted as a hedge, the French Cabaret Purple Hibiscus is a tall, pollinator-attracting hedge, providing food for wildlife and privacy for your yard. Plant this shrub in full sun to ensure fast growth and ample blooming. This Hibiscus is not too particular, growing well in average soil and requiring an average amount of water. When established, The French Cabaret is even drought and heat tolerant.
French Cabaret™ Purple Hibiscus Care
Plant the French Cabaret Purple Hibiscus in full sun where it can get at least 6 hours of sun a day. Dig a hole that is twice the width and the same depth as the root ball. Water this shrub regularly and deeply in its first year to help it become established. After the first year, water occasionally, especially in the hottest and driest parts of the year. French Cabaret is not a heavy feeder as it thrives in average to poor-quality soil, though may benefit from a low dose of fertilizer if it is failing to bloom.
When the French Cabaret Purple Hibiscus is young, it can be pruned lightly to keep its shape. Once mature, Hibiscus is tolerant of heavy pruning and trimming. This shrub can be kept in its natural willowy shape or made into a sculpted hedge, depending on your preference. This Hibiscus will continue to bloom on its own, not requiring deadheading.
French Cabaret™ Purple Hibiscus Spacing
Plant the French Cabaret Purple Hibiscus about 4-7+ feet away from other plants if you are looking to grow it to its natural size and shape. When creating a uniform hedge, plant French Cabaret 3-4 feet apart from other French Cabarets. This Hibiscus can be planted into a large container for a year or two as long as it is adequately watered and brought into a protected space in the winter.
