The fastest, most beautiful way to obtain privacy is to plant this interesting green hedge plant. Its speed of growth is nothing short of miraculous. Its dense, tight branching, year-round interest, and its hardiness, make it everyone’s favorite screen of choice. It grows to a height of 15-20 feet with a width of 3-5 feet. Full Speed A Hedge® is easy to grow in zones 3-8.
This super strong, evergreen conifer has a tall, narrow, space-saving habit. It grows more than three feet a year. It is disease resistant as well as resisting deer and other pests. When established it is tolerant of drought. A native tree, it is very low maintenance. Plant it as a hedge to block noise, provide excellent privacy, and as a windbreak. It will eventually screen second-story decks. Plant one as a specimen to make a back of the border standout.
Full Speed A Hedge® American Pillar Arborvitae Care
Dig a hole twice as wide and just as deep as the root ball. There is no need to amend the soil. Backfill, then spread 2-3 inches of mulch around the base avoiding the trunk. Water regularly, with an average amount, for the first six months. It will tolerate some dryness when established.
This tree will thrive in a full sun location and will accept part sun. It is not fussy about soil, it is even salt-tolerant, but likes moist, well-drained spots best. No pruning is necessary, but you may trim if desired. The tree needs no special winter care as it is resistant to cold wind and ice.
Full Speed A Hedge® American Pillar Arborvitae Spacing
When growing these plants in a hedge, space them 2.5 feet apart. Measure the distance from center to center.
