Gallery Pink Lupine, Lupinus polyphyllus ‘Gallery Pink’, or Lupinus ‘Gallery Pink’, is a dwarf biennial lupine that blooms during the late spring or early summer with dense pyramidal spires of vivid pink, two-toned, sweet pea-like flowers. Reaching a mature height of 18 to 24 inches, with a spread of 15 to 18 inches, the Gallery Pink Lupine produces mounds of finely-textured, emerald green, palmate foliage that is evergreen in most climates. The Gallery Pink Lupine makes a wonderful cut flower option and is beloved by florists and growers for its remarkable color and interesting structure.
Hailing from the Pacific Northwest, Gallery Pink Lupine, one of the famous Russell Lupines, has an upright, compact, mounding habit. It is mildew resistant, as well as resistant to deer and other critters. This low-maintenance beauty attracts butterfly larvae and hummingbirds, as well as supports critical pollinators, who can’t resist its flashy colors and sweet nectar. It is self-seeding, as well as fast-growing.
Gallery Pink Lupine Care
Gallery Pink Lupine grows best when the soil is rich, slightly-acidic, and has ample drainage. It also grows well in clay. The Gallery Pink can even handle slightly dry soil once it has been established. This Lupine prefers full to partial sun and will need to be watered weekly. It cannot tolerate standing water.
Once the flowerhead has spent, deadhead your Lupine to encourage growth in the following season. In the late fall, you can cut your Gallery Pink Lupine, but be careful not to disturb the plant's crown during winter and spring.
Gallery Pink Lupine Spacing
Gallery Pink Lupine is an excellent accent for pots, containers, and any other small spaces in need of a swatch of color. They work well planted en masse or when placed in mixed perennial borders. Gallery Pink Lupine will need ample air circulation to thrive. Plant them at least 18 inches apart from center to center.
