Growing Zones
This charming showstopper provides a striking splash of color from midsummer to frost. The lavender purple flowers have white halo centers and a light, sweet fragrance. They are loved by bees and butterflies. The flower panicles are enhanced by dark green foliage that doesn’t get powdery mildew however hot and humid your garden. This long blooming Phlox paniculata grows to a height of 38-42 inches.
A hardy, vigorous phlox, it has an upright, mounding habit. You will love it for the disease resistance of its foliage. It is one of our North American natives. Use the plant as a ‘thriller’ in containers, grow it in borders, as a specimen or in a mass planting. It is a wonderful cut flower. A staple of cottage gardens, it is an asset to any gardening style.
Garden Girls Cover Girl Phlox Care
Plant in well-drained, humus-rich soil. Set the crown 1½ inches below the soil surface. Garden Phlox prefer an average amount of water. Avoid overhead watering – you need to water the soil rather than the foliage. Fertilize bi-monthly with a well-balanced fertilizer.
It will grow in part sun to sun, but full sun is best for bloom quantity and quality. It prefers average to fertile soil with an acidic or neutral pH.
Garden Girls Cover Girl Phlox Spacing
Space plants 24-28 inches apart. Do not plant near trees and shrubs that compete for moisture and nutrients and not next to walls or fences where there is poor air circulation.
