Long-lasting blooms are the hallmark of the Gemo St. John's Wort. The bold yellow flowers are on full display from July till September. The large blooms are offset by thin, sword-shaped foliage in a grey-green hue. This low-maintenance plant features a tightly branched, upright growth habit. The Gemo St. John's Wort has bountiful blooms, and this shrub will be covered entirely in flowers during the summer.
This beauty will shine in beds, borders, mass plantings, or as a groundcover. At 2 to 3 feet tall, this plant can also be used as a low hedge. Butterflies are drawn to the vibrant flowers, making this plant a lovely addition to a butterfly garden. St. John’s Wort is native to North America, so this plant requires some care and attention during the first year, but it will acclimate quickly and be very low-maintenance going forward. This plant grows as a perennial in USDA zones 4 through 9.
Gemo St. John's Wort Care
Plant in rich, neutral to acidic soil that is moist but well-drained. Gemo St. John's Wort does not like soggy conditions, so excellent drainage is necessary. This plant requires consistent deep watering for the first year but will not need as much water starting in the second growing season.
St. John's Wort naturally maintains a good shape, but you can trim it as needed. Support plenty of blooms by applying a slow-release fertilizer in the spring.
Gemo St. John's Wort Spacing
Space plants 2 to 3 feet apart to create a hedge or dense planting. The Gemo St. John's Wort will reach 2 to 3 feet tall and wide.
