Hibiscus plants are known for their large, showy flowers, but this combo takes things to the next level. The Giant Hibiscus Duo includes the Hibiscus ‘Angel Eyes’ and Hibiscus ‘Watermelon Ruffles.’ The flowers measure a stunning 8 inches wide. The Angle Eyes has white flowers with hints of light pink and dark burgundy eyes, while the flowers of the Watermelon Ruffles are a continuous magenta hue. The flowers are short-lived, but the shrub continuously blooms all summer, so new flowers quickly replace the ones that fade. Broad green leaves complement the impressive flowers and give the shrub a full and dense look.
Feature the Giant Hibiscus Duo plants together as a focal point, or plant them in different areas of a landscape for a curated look. Grow Hibiscus in a foundation planting or use it to conceal a low fence or border a walkway or driveway. Pollinators favor the showy flowers, and these plants help support bees and butterflies. Grow the Giant Hibiscus Duo in zones 4 through 9.
Giant Hibiscus Duo Care
These Hibiscus plants thrive in full sun, in moist, well-drained soil with high organic content. Amend heavy clay with an ample amount of organic compost. Consistently water new plants. Established plants need about one inch of water per week when blooming. Fertilize each spring to encourage abundant blooms.
Prune the Giant Hibiscus Duo shrubs in late winter or early spring. Wait until there is no longer a change of frost before pruning. Remove suckers, crossed branches, and dead growth.
Giant Hibiscus Duo Spacing
The Hibiscus ‘Angel Eyes’ and ‘Watermelon Ruffles’ reach 4 to 5 feet tall and wide. When creating a hedge or continuous planting, space plants 5 feet apart.
